Michelle Dhanak, M.D. has been in clinical practice for almost 25 years. She attended the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and completed her medical residency in internal medicine at Highland General Hospital in Oakland. For the last nine years she has practiced in New Zealand as a geriatrician, caring for frail elders at home. She has extensive experience caring for people with dementia. She believes in a holistic approach and the importance of partnering with patients and their families. Dr. Dhanak is passionate about promoting dignity, respect, autonomy and self-efficacy for older people. She has a particular interest in utilizing physical activity to maintain physical and cognitive health. Dr. Dhanak is a fellow in the American College of Physicians and the Royal Australian College of Physicians.

This important program by Dr. Michelle Dhanak is designed for family care providers and clinical staff.

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to learn how to manage the challenges of dementia, including the difficult behaviors that often come with the disease, and how to best handle different situations. Participants will learn which medications work best and which medications work less well for someone with dementia. Participants will also learn different strategies and techniques for using fewer medications. 

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 12302, for 4 contact hours.
